AUCKLANDS BEST NEW DAY HIKE

Only 1 hour from the CBD brings you to the Cascade Kauri tracks which are now open after 6 years of closure!

As we rolled up in the morning the car parks already impressed with plenty of parks and Dyson hand dryers (a nice erm plush extra!)

The track starts on a very new boardwalk which wraps around several giant Kauri trees. We spent a lot of time taking in their majestic energy before we hit the bush track. Off the boardwalk you’re wondering through bush, still well maintained and it would be hard to get lost here. We saw several hikers at around 11am and most stopped to say hi!

The end of this track is one of the most spectacular i’ve seen in Auckland and I’ll definitely be back in the summer for a swim in the river that flows through here. I’ll leave the rest as a surprise, be sure to go and get your own glimpse soon.

We did this loop in 2.5 hours at a good walking pace. I’d recommend going for a half day, taking lunch/brunch and enjoying it by the stream on the way back to the car park.

Track: Montana Heritage Trail

Length: 10 km’s

Difficulty: Easy - Moderate (first half easy and could be an out and back, second half moderate)

Top tip: Leave some additional time to take in the Kauri Tree’s - the best I’ve seen in Auckland, I can completely see why the track was closed for so long!
